瑞典ALCAD镍镉蓄电池可重复2000次以上的充放电，经济耐用。其内部抵制力小，既内阻很小，可快速充电，又可为负载提供大电流，而且放电时电压变化很小，是一种非常理想的直流供电电池。镍镉电池（Ni-Cd，Nickel-Cadmium Batteries, Ni-Cd Rechargeable Battery）是早应用于手机、科等设备的电池种类。

位于负的镉(Cd)和氢氧化钠(NaOH)中的氢氧根离子(OH-)化合成氢氧化镉，并附着在阳上，同时也放出电子。电子沿着电线至阴，和阴的二氧化镍与氢氧化钠溶液中的水反应形成氢氧化镍和氢氧根离子，氢氧化镍会附着在阳上，氢氧根离子则又回到氢氧化钠溶液中，故氢氧化钠溶液浓度不会随着时间而下降。

放电反应式：

负反应： Cd+2OH-→Cd(OH)2+2e-

正反应： 2e-+NiO2+2H2O→Ni(OH)2+2OH-

总反应： Cd+NiO2+2H2O→Cd(OH)2+Ni(OH)2

充电反应式：

正反应：Ni(OH)2+2OH-→ 2e-+NiO2+2H2O

负反应：Cd(OH)2+2e-→ Cd+2OH-

总反应：　Cd(OH)2+Ni(OH
